Transport Canada lists the program as running from February 16, 2026 to March 31, 2031, subject to funding availability.[1]
Funding remaining: Transport Canada reports the program received $2.275B in funding over 5 years and, as of May 15, 2026, had $2.153B remaining. That is about $122M committed, or roughly 5% of the total, in the 3 months since the program launched on February 16, 2026. Because the incentive is available subject to funding availability, the program can close before its scheduled end date if funding runs out.[2]
Incentive amounts in 2026: Up to $5,000 for an eligible battery electric or hydrogen fuel cell vehicle; up to $2,500for an eligible plug-in hybrid. Transport Canada has published a schedule of declining amounts: by 2030–2031, battery-electric and fuel cell amounts drop to up to $2,000 and plug-in hybrid amounts drop to up to $1,000.[1]
Vehicle price cap: The final transaction value must be $50,000 or less. There is no transaction-value cap on EVs made in Canada.[1]
Eligibility limits: Individuals can receive 1 EVAP incentive over the 5-year program. Organizations and businesses can receive up to 10. Carsharing companies can receive up to 50 per calendar year.[1]
How to apply:The incentive is applied at the dealership at the point of sale, after the consumer completes Transport Canada’s EVAP Consumer Consent Form. Eligible vehicles are listed on Transport Canada’s EVAP vehicle list.[1]
